This category brings together articles about villages of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast — settlements historically associated with having a church. Among them are district administrative centers, old manorial villages, places of folk crafts and pilgrimage. A special place is held by Bolshoye Boldino — the famous Pushkin estate, and Diveyevo with the Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent.
Many villages preserve architectural monuments, estates, and natural landmarks: in Staraya Pustyn there are karst lakes and a pine forest, while in Khokhloma Village the tradition of the famous Khokhloma painting lives on. Some of these settlements have today lost their status as independent municipalities or have been converted into urban-type settlements, but their history is reflected in separate articles.
