Spasskoye is a village in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the administrative center of Spassky District. It was founded in 1399 and is one of the oldest settlements in Nizhny Novgorod Region. The earliest inhabitants of Spassky District were the Mari people.
History
Due to frequent raids by Mongol-Tatar detachments and Kazan forces, the eastern outskirts remained deserted. It was only in the mid-1640s that Spasskoye became a fairly large craft village. Trade and crafts developed rapidly in the Spasskaya volost: the village of Tubanaevka became a center of leather production; in the village of Monastyrsky Vatras dozens of sheepskin workshops operated; the village of Yolkhovka was known for its pottery; and in the village of Turbanka, starting in 1912, one of the province's largest flax-spinning mills began operating.
The district center, the village of Spasskoye, had about 10 branches of manufacturing industry. The main types of goods in the village of Spasskoye were raw leather, down, feathers, horsehair, bristle, and the products of local craftsmen. But Spasskoye became best known for the development of trade. Markets were held here, and from 1831 summer and autumn fairs as well. The fair grew into the largest center of rural trade in the Nizhny Novgorod stretch of the Volga Region. Spasskoye became a district center in 1929. In 1963 the district was abolished, but it was restored again in 1965.

- The "Karashev well" on Rabochaya Street, near which, according to legend, the village was founded;
- Revolution Square — the place where, until the first third of the 20th century, the Spasskoye markets and fairs were held (since the late 1980s they have been gathering here again).
Historical and Architectural Heritage
In Spasskoye, as well as in Krasny Vatras, Tubanaevka, and the village of Turbanka, residential and industrial buildings erected by local entrepreneurs in the 19th and early 20th centuries have survived.
