Local Historians
Agafonov (1911-2002) — Honored Architect of the Russian Federation, professor at the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, laureate of the State Prize, honorary member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences. He led the restoration work on the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael, the Stroganov Nativity Church, and the chambers of the Makaryev and Pechersky monasteries. He authored a large number of published works on the history of Nizhny Novgorod architecture.
Galay Yury Grigoryevich (11.09.1945-02.11.2012) — Doctor of Law, Candidate of Historical Sciences, professor. Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Chairman of the "Nizhny Novgorod Local Historian" society.
Irina Sergeyevna Gogoleva (born November 22, 1935) — honorary citizen of Bor District, local historian, director of the museum of the "Teplokhod" plant.
Viktor Illarionov (1901–1985) — archaeologist, historian, local historian.
Igor Alexandrovich Kiryanov (1918-2007) — Candidate of Historical Sciences, veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Chairman of the "Nizhny Novgorod Local Historian" society, member of the presidium of the Nizhny Novgorod Culture Foundation. Author of the books "The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin" and "The Old Fortresses of the Nizhny Novgorod Volga Region".
Local History Readings
Demidov Local History Readings — a conference for pupils of educational institutions of Vorotynsky District. From 2006 to 2008 it was held under the title "Native Land, Forever Beloved!" At a ceremonial event marking the 125th anniversary of Vorotynsky-Vasilsursk local history studies, it was decided to name the conference after Nikolai Alexandrovich Demidov, author of the "Sketch of Vasilsursk Uyezd" published in 1884. It is held annually in the Bykovka in Vorotynsky District in a club housed in the Demidovs' manor house (first half of the 19th century). The traditional theme of the conference is "History, Culture, and Traditions of the Native Land." In addition to residents of Vorotynets (disambiguation), schoolchildren from Spassky and Bolshemurashkinsky districts also took part in the conference. The "Demidov Readings" include competitions in computer presentations, young tour guides, and research papers. All competitions are held across three age groups: elementary school, grades 5–8, and grades 9–11. Organizers of the conference: the Department of Education and Youth Policy of the Vorotynsky District Administration and the Vorotynsky District Children's Local History Excursion Bureau "Native Land".
