The Gorky Special Scientific Restoration Production Workshop (GSNRPM) was an organization active in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) that carried out design and restoration work on historical heritage sites in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Its work can be reliably traced from at least the 1960s to the late 1980s.[2]

The workshop was formed in 1957 on the basis of the Gorky division of the republican Special Scientific Restoration Production Workshop, which had been established in 1949. Svyatoslav Leonidovich Agafonov became the scientific director of restoration work and the workshop's lead architect, while Konstantin Iosifovich Ryazanov served as director from 1958 to 1978. The staff numbered over 100 people, with design and production work carried out in parallel, and the workshop itself was long housed in the monastic cell building of the Caves (Pechersky) Monastery; it was closed in 1995.[2]

Activity

In 1984–1987, GSNRPM carried out the restoration design for the main house of the Ryabinina Estate on Ilyinskaya, located at 56 Ilyinskaya Street in Nizhny Novgorod. The project's client was the Gorky regional center of the production association "TsentrEVMkompleks" (Center for Computing Systems), which had taken over the building in 1982. The project's author was architect A. I. Kurlin. In the course of the work, architectural and archaeological surveys and on-site inspection of the main estate house were carried out, revealing that different parts of the building dated from different periods. In parallel, historical and archival research was conducted, making it possible to reconstruct the building history of the house and of the estate as a whole.[1]
