Nizhny Novgorod District is the historic center of Nizhny Novgorod, located in the upland part of the city. This category collects articles on the streets, estates, cemeteries, and other landmarks of the district. It concentrates a significant share of the city's historic architecture: nineteenth-century estate complexes such as the The Rudinsky–Sergeyev Estate on Bolshaya Pecherskaya) and the Ryabinina Estate on Ilyinskaya, as well as architectural landmarks at risk of ruin, including the Nenyukov Estate Outbuilding. The district's appearance is also shaped by historic thoroughfares, including the Georgievsky Descent, laid out in the first half of the nineteenth century during a large-scale urban-planning transformation of the Volga escarpment.
