Afonino is A village within the Nizhny Novgorod region, located in the city's Nizhegorodsky District, near the Kova River. It is mentioned in the description of the Nizhegorodsky District's boundary: the boundary skirts the community gardens near the village of Afonino, turns north at the Kova River, and then follows the middle of the river to Belinsky Street.

Natural surroundings

Near Afonino lies Lake Torfushki, part of the Artyomovskiye Meadows natural area. The lake holds a colony of about 500 pairs of black-headed gulls. In the ten years before 2022 the water body shrank by almost a quarter because of expanding residential development on the adjoining hill. Across the Artyomovskiye Meadows as a whole, more than 200 bird species have been recorded, several of which are listed in the Red Data Book of the Nizhny Novgorod Region); the rare inhabitants include common terns, black-necked grebes, and Eurasian penduline tits.
