This category collects articles about monasteries and hermitages of Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast — active, abolished, and revived. The monastic tradition in the region spans several centuries: religious houses arose both within the city and in remote rural areas, and many of them survived closure in the Soviet period followed by revival. Among the most significant are the Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent, the Makaryev Monastery, at whose walls Russia's largest historical trade fair was once held, as well as the city monasteries — the Annunciation and Voznesenskiy Pecherskiy Muzhskoy Monastery monasteries.
