Svyato-Nikolayevsky Women's Convent. Founded around 1580.[1] The first abbess was Fotiniya. The founder of the convent is considered to be Feofilakt Yakovlev, a resident of Arzamas, who built a wooden church in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker around 1580, alongside which a convent for women was established; the stone Nikolsky Cathedral of the convent was consecrated in 1683.[1] In 1650, the convent burned down but was quickly rebuilt. From 1764, it was a third-class communal women's convent. At the beginning of the 20th century, more than 200 sisters resided in the convent. The convent was visited by pilgrims who came to venerate the locally revered Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God and the miracle-working icon of Saint Nicholas.

It was closed after 1924 and reopened in 1994. In 2016, restoration work was carried out at the convent: the Metropolitan of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, Archbishop George, personally inspected the structures being restored and discussed plans for further restoration work with representatives of the contracting organizations.[2] The convent has 25 residents. As of 2016, the abbess of the convent was Hegumenia Filareta (Shevchenko).[2]
