The village of Yagodnoye is a settlement in the Gorodets urban district of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, part of the Smolki rural council. At the end of 2026 the village changed its administrative status, being reclassified from a village (derevnya) to a large village (selo).
Change of status
The reclassification of Yagodnoye from a village to a large village was part of administrative changes that affected several settlements of the Gorodets and Varnavino urban districts in 2026. Alongside the upgrade of Yagodnoye's status, the villages of Karavaevo and Oskordino, also part of the Smolki rural council, were abolished — they were incorporated into the large village of Smolki in connection with participation in a gas-supply extension programme. Sosnovskoye Village in the Nikolo-Pogost rural council was granted the status of a khutor (a small rural settlement). All the changes take effect on 1 January 2027.
In a broader context: over the preceding two decades, around 120 settlements have disappeared from the map of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast after losing their permanent population.
