Gorodetsky District — a municipal district of Nizhny Novgorod Region, formed on the basis of Gorodetsky District — one of the largest districts in the Region, located in its central part. The administrative center is the town of Gorodets. The district includes the towns of Gorodets and Zavolzhye, the settlement of Pervomaysky, and a number of rural localities, including the Smolkovsky rural council.
The territory of the district borders Balakhninsky, Borsky, Sokolsky, and Koverninsky Districts. In addition to the towns and the settlement of Pervomaysky, the former Gorodetsky District comprised 12 rural councils.

From 1 January 2027, Sosnovskoye Village in the Nikolo-Pogostinsky rural council of Gorodetsky District will be reclassified as a khutor.[2] The decision to merge was made in order to create conditions for the territory's participation in the gas extension program.

From 1 January 2027, The Village of Yagodnoye in Gorodetsky District will be granted the status of a selo — the corresponding law was signed by the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region in August 2026, and the decision was adopted by deputies of the Regional Legislative Assembly in July 2026.[3][2]
