The Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region is the regional branch of the all-Russian Union of Journalists of Russia, a professional organization of the journalistic community of Nizhny Novgorod Region. It unites the region's professional journalists; in particular, it maintains the "Golden Fund," an honorary register of the organization's most distinguished members.

Leadership

Since November 2006, the chair of the board of the Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region has been Olga Noskova — a journalist, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Candidate of Philological Sciences, and academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. The organization was registered on December 17, 1991; its legal address is 60 Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, Nizhny Novgorod. Its actual address is 2 Kostina Street, Office 131 (right wing of the building, 1st floor), Nizhny Novgorod; telephone: 430-68-42. The organization's email is journ.nn@gmail.com; the union's website is registered with Roskomnadzor as an online publication.[1][2][3] In March 2024, Olga Noskova announced her intention to step down as chair; a reporting and election conference of the regional Union of Journalists was scheduled for June 2024 to elect a new leader. Since July 10, 2024, the chair of the organization's board has been Andrey Nikolayevich Kleshchev.[3][4] In parallel, Noskova served as director of the NNTV television and radio company (from 1991) and subsequently moved to the post of Minister of Social Policy in the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Membership and the "Golden Fund"

The organization confers the status of member of the Union of Journalists of Russia together with enrollment in the Golden Fund of the Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region. Among those enrolled in the Golden Fund is the scholar and publicist Gennady Nikolayevich Gorshenkov, vice president of the Russian Criminological Association and a member of several scientific councils. The Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region has about 1,000 members — employees of print and electronic media, among them holders of military and labor orders, honorary citizens, and doctors and candidates of science; the organization's main source of funding is membership dues. The staff of the Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region includes three deputy chairs — Nazary Mikhaylovich Zeleny, Svetlana Yevgenyevna Kulikova, and Sergey Fyodorovich Laptev — as well as executive director Valentina Aleksandrovna Mironova and chief accountant Nadezhda Borisovna Krovyakova.[1] The organization holds regular creative workshops for journalists from regional and district newsrooms at the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Information Center (NOITs), and also brings newsrooms together into territorial creative associations — in particular, the Northern and Semyonov journalists' associations.

In November 2015, members of the Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region held a meeting with Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas at the bishop's residence at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Nizhny Novgorod; the meeting was attended by staff of the region's district and city newspapers who, according to chair Noskova, felt a need for such contact, since their readers, viewers, and listeners were keenly interested in the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Nizhny Novgorod Region.[5]

In 2026, the Union of Journalists of Nizhny Novgorod Region summed up the results of a three-year project, "Great Writers of the Small Homeland: Traditional Values of Small Territories in the Works of Local Writers and Publications of the Local Media. A Dialogue of Generations," carried out with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives; over the three years, the project included more than a dozen literary and local-history expeditions, including to Arzamas, Sergach, Bogorodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, and Kovernino, with the participation of journalists, local historians, representatives of local administrations, and staff of cultural institutions.[2][6]

Before joining the Union of Journalists, Noskova worked at the Gorky Television Studio, and also served as a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Region.[4]
