Andrey Nikolayevich Kleshchyov — a Nizhny Novgorod journalist, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Nizhegorodskiye Novosti and chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Union of Journalists. He has worked in the profession since the mid-1980s, and at Nizhegorodskiye Novosti since 1995[1].

Thirty-eight years in the profession

Kleshchyov graduated from Lobachevsky University with a degree in journalism. By 2024, his professional experience totaled more than thirty-eight years[1].

He joined Nizhegorodskiye Novosti in 1995 and worked his way up to editor-in-chief, taking the post in 2018[1]. The newspaper is part of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Information Center — a state holding company that unites regional publications and agencies. In addition to his editorial work, Kleshchyov teaches: he is an associate professor in the Department of International Journalism[2].

At the helm of the Union of Journalists

On 30 May 2024, at the XIX accountability and election conference of the regional branch, Kleshchyov was elected chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Union of Journalists for a five-year term[1][2].

He succeeded Olga Noskova, who had led the organization since 2007 and announced her intention to step down on 26 March of the same year[2]. The new chairman said immediately after his election that the organization's immediate priorities had yet to be formulated[1].

The newspaper he leads

Nizhegorodskiye Novosti is a daily regional socio-political newspaper published since 1990. It was founded by the Regional Soviet of People's Deputies as a platform for dialogue between government and society; today its founders are listed as the government and the Regional Legislative Assembly[3].

In November 2025, the publication celebrated its thirty-fifth anniversary alongside Zemlya Nizhegorodskaya. Kleshchev has led the editorial team since 2018 — meaning he has already served longer than most of his predecessors[1].

The newspaper triptych

On September 2, 2026, three regional newspapers — Nizhegorodskaya Pravda, Nizhegorodskiye Novosti, and Nizhegorodsky Sport — published their September issues with a shared cover: an image of the new ice arena "Volga Arena" at the Strelka was divided into three parts and placed on the front pages so that together they formed a single triptych[4].

The concept was about scale: "the new arena needed more than one front page — it took three," explained Roman Filtsov, deputy director of the media group at the Regional Information Center[4]. Each publication nevertheless retained its own focus: Nizhegorodskaya Pravda covered regional events, Nizhegorodskiye Novosti covered city life, and Nizhegorodsky Sport covered the sporting dimension of the opening[4]. For the Nizhny Novgorod press, this was a rare instance of collaborative design: three newspapers of the same holding company working as one.
