The Nizhny Novgorod Industrial Technical School was a secondary vocational educational institution in Nizhny Novgorod, operating at least during the Soviet and post-Soviet periods; in documents it appears under the official name State Educational Institution of Secondary Vocational Education "Nizhny Novgorod Industrial Technical School." The technical school was located at: Nizhny Novgorod, Yuliusa Fuchika Street, 12-A.[2] The institution traces its history to 30 June 1943, when order No. 14-14-69 of the "Stroygaz" trust established Factory and Works Trade School No. 14 to train construction personnel during the Great Patriotic War. Over the following decades the institution was repeatedly reorganized: Construction School No. 12 (1955), Construction Trade School No. 4 (1957), Municipal Vocational Technical School No.
40 (1965), Vocational School No. 1 (1994), Vocational Lyceum No. 1 (1995). The institution received the status of a technical school and the name "Nizhny Novgorod Industrial Technical School" by order No. 490 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Nizhny Novgorod Region dated 26 December 2003. From 1994 the institution's director was Sergei Aleksandrovich Varaksa (b. 21 May 1951) — Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, an Honored Worker of Vocational and Technical Education of the RSFSR, laureate of the City of Nizhny Novgorod Prize (2009), winner of the All-Russian competition "Manager in Education 2004" and of the "Leader in Education 2005" competition for Nizhny Novgorod Region, later awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Nizhny Novgorod (2019).[3] In 2005 the state educational institution of primary vocational education "Vocational School No.
50" was merged into the technical school, which became its legal successor. By order No. 925 of the Ministry of Education of Nizhny Novgorod Region dated 15 December 2008, the technical school was transformed into the "Nizhny Novgorod Industrial College," which continues its activity to this day. Under Varaksa, the technical school established a museum complex that included a museum of the history of vocational and technical education (which received regional status), a museum of the 4th Tank Army, a Hall of Military Glory, and a permanent exhibition of technical and applied art. In 2005, under Varaksa's leadership, the All-Russian Exhibition-Fair of Vocational Creativity was revived at the technical school; the annual regional program "Steps to Excellence," developed by the director, drew around 13,000 students and 600 teachers from vocational education institutions as participants each year.[3][3][1]
Notable staff and graduates
Maria Mikhailovna Egorova (b. 26 April 1932) worked at the technical school as head of the career-guidance department. Anatoly Dmitrievich Novikov (b. 13 April 1936), who was awarded the title of Honored Teacher of Russia, taught specialized subjects there.
The technical school was part of the educational path of a number of Nizhny Novgorod figures: Vladimir Ivanovich Pleskov graduated from it before entering the Ural Power Engineering Institute; in 1931 he began his working career as a foreman of the electrical repair shop at Krasnoye Sormovo Plant, and later held the position of senior electrician of the capital construction department (1931–1935).
