Nizhny Novgorod city hall searched over sponsorship

Nizhny Novgorod city hall searched over sponsorship/ Rosbalt, 28/01/2010, 19:49

Nizhny Novgorod, January 28. Law enforcement agencies are auditing the financial and business activities of the Nizhny Novgorod city hall. According to a Rosbalt correspondent, the inspectors' close attention has fallen on the Committee for the Management of Municipal Property and Land Resources and two departments — economics and construction.

Officers of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Volga Federal District carried out a seizure of financial and business documentation today. At first, the law enforcement activity at city hall was described as a "routine inspection" with "nothing extraordinary" about it. However, it later emerged that the investigative actions concerned sponsorship assistance given to the football club "Nizhny Novgorod." Accordingly, the seized documents also directly concern the sponsorship relationship between city hall and the football club.

As Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Bulavinov explained to journalists, the inspectors are currently examining documentation to establish who helped FC "Nizhny Novgorod" and in what way, and he promised to give the press details of what was happening on Friday.
