"Nizhny 800" (nizhny800.ru) is a city media project that grew out of preparations for the 800th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod. It began as the official portal of the jubilee: the domain was registered on August 28, 2018 [2], and the first pages of the site appeared in September of that year [3]. After the celebration on August 21, 2021, the portal remained a chronicle of the jubilee program and a city magazine [1], while the Telegram channel of the same name continued to cover the city's daily agenda.

The jubilee portal

The early pages of the site served individual city events: in September 2018 it hosted registration for the "Relay Day" [3]. By 2021–2022 the portal had become a showcase for the entire program: a countdown to the jubilee, a list of partners and sponsors, and a news feed; in early 2022 the main topic was the title of "New Year's Capital of Russia" awarded to the city [4].

After the jubilee, the site kept the sections "About the 800th Anniversary," "Projects 800," "Key Events," "In Focus," and "Special Projects," among them "Courtyards 800" and "Ecostart 800," as well as materials about the gala show "The Beginning of the New," staged by Ilya Averbukh, and about the jubilee's mascots — Gora the woodpecker and Nino the fawn [1] [5]. The portal also operates an online shop selling souvenirs with the celebration's symbols [1].

Telegram channel

The "Nizhny 800" channel covers the city's agenda: top news, event announcements, guides to the city and the Region, photographs, and notes on the history of Nizhny. As of October 2026, the channel has 36.2 thousand subscribers; it is included in the list of pages with an audience of over ten thousand users maintained by Roskomnadzor, under number 6215889815.
