This category collects articles about the Erzya, one of the indigenous peoples of the Nizhny Novgorod region: their history, language, religion, traditions, cuisine, and notable representatives. The Erzya presence in the region traces back to the Middle Ages: the lands of Erzyan Mastor covered a significant part of what is now Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and the leader Purgas became one of the key figures in the history of the Erzya's confrontation with neighboring powers.
Today Erzya culture is preserved in the region's villages: in Lukoyanov the Museum of Erzya Culture operates, and in the village of Pikshen the women's folk choir Chilisema works, preserving the people's song and ritual traditions.
