The Nature of the Phenomenon
With Nizhny Novgorod Region's Valery Shantsev taking office as Governor), we started hearing more and more often that life had gotten better. Every year Nizhny Novgorod residents hear that a ton of things are about to be built. The Investment Council under the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region under that same governor reviews a pile of costly investor projects every two weeks — projects that will "be realized, if not today then tomorrow."
Using a simple search and news items from fellow reporters, LiveJournal user Lesnoyezhik decided to compile a list of projects that ended up staying only in the news archives of the press agencies, while "the cart is still where it was."
Tales of 2006-2011
- 1. OOO "Holding Company Lider" (Yekaterinburg) will build a water park in the Grebnoy Canal area in Nizhny Novgorod. Investment — about $40 million.
- 2. OOO "Sport Extreme – NN" will build a ski complex in Shveytsariya ("Switzerland") Park in Nizhny Novgorod. Investment — 29 million rubles.
- 3. The company "Novstroytekh" will build a multi-level parking garage for 200 cars on Pochtovy Syezd in Nizhny Novgorod. Investment — 150 million rubles.
- 4. "Obyedinennye Transportnye Tekhnologii" (United Transport Technologies) will build a car plant in the Borsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Investment — $370 million.
- 5. OOO "Karo Film" will renovate the "Rossiya" cinema in Nizhny Novgorod and add a hotel-and-entertainment complex to it. Investment — 650 million rubles.
- 6. OOO "Evto" (part of the "Zhanto" group of companies) will build a shopping center on the site of the former Meshchersky Market in Nizhny Novgorod. Investment — 405 million rubles.
- 7. OOO "Slavyansky Dvor" will build the "Kuba" ("Cuba") cultural and entertainment center on Svobody Square in Nizhny Novgorod. Investment — 800 million rubles.
- 8. The "Zolotye Tsvety" ("Golden Flowers") group of companies will build four greenhouse complexes for growing roses in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Investment — 1.1 billion rubles.
- 9. GBD Invest Ltd (USA) will build the "Center of Russia" multimodal terminal complexes in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Investment — 50-90 billion rubles.
- 10. The company "Kinograd" will build a film studio in Nizhny Novgorod.
- 11. The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region will build the Yeltsin Library.
- 12. OAO "Nizhegorodkapstroy" will renovate the ski-jump complex and build hotels on the Grebnoy Canal in Nizhny Novgorod. Investment — 6.57 billion rubles.
- 13. OOO "Volga-Service" will build a health center for water tourism and recreation on the bank of the Volga near the settlement of Maloye Kozino. Initial investment — 30 million rubles.
- 14. OOO "Nizhny Novgorod Helicopter Club" will build a heliport in the Borsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Investment — 40 million rubles.
- 15. The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region will build the "Mokhovye Gory" biathlon complex in the Borsky District. Investment — 500 million rubles.
- 16. OOO "MIK" — development of Grebnevskiye Peski Island.
- 17. OOO "Park Development Moskva" will build a number of facilities in Shveytsariya Park. Investment — 4 billion rubles.

Top Myths
In addition, there are several top-myth projects that every Nizhny Novgorod resident knows about:
- Construction of the "Siti-Strelka" ("City-Strelka") business center. Investment — $4 billion.
- Construction of a high-speed railway with Japanese participation.
- Construction of an oncology center in Nizhny Novgorod. The project was withdrawn and blocked by the regional government itself.
- Underground multi-level parking lots on Minin Square, as well as on Gorky Square).
- Renovation of the Nizhne-Volzhskaya Embankment.
- Construction of a new district in the Borskaya floodplain (Globe Town).
- And finally, the construction of a Crematorium.
Not counting the numerous hotels that were supposed to be on almost every corner of Nizhny Novgorod by now.
