ProdKholod (OOO "Scientific and Production Firm 'ProdKholod'") was a Nizhny Novgorod small business that, from December 2000 to March 2020, manufactured custom stainless steel equipment for professional kitchens and food production facilities in Leninsky District, and also made bathhouse tanks, greenhouses, and barbecue grills for dacha owners [1][2][3].

The company and its people

The company was registered on December 22, 2000 — still by the Nizhny Novgorod Registration Chamber, before tax inspectorates took over the registration of legal entities; in the last days of that same December the firm was registered with the tax office, the pension fund, and the social insurance fund. Its charter capital was 10,000 rubles, and the main line of business listed in the registry was the manufacture of sinks, washbasins, bathtubs, and other sanitary ware from ferrous metals, copper, or aluminum [1].

A co-owner of the company from September 2003 was Viktor Ivanovich Dresvyannikov, and its director from October 31, 2006 was Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pakhomova. The registry gives the legal address as Moskovskoye Highway, 302V, but the office and workshop were located at the other end of the city — on Pamirskaya Street [1][4].

The workshop beyond the checkpoint

The office and metalworking shop stood at Pamirskaya Street, 11 — at the same address as the milling machine plant, on whose premises the firm was based [4][5]. Access was through the checkpoint on the side of Pamirskaya and Kosmonavta Komarova Street, and alongside the "from the checkpoint to the workshop" directions, the website provided a 360-degree panorama of the checkpoint itself [4].

Orders were taken by phone at (831) 220-50-52; the second number belonged to the secretary, and the company's email lived on Rambler [4]. In 2012 the address was given as Building 11, Office 10; by 2020 it was Building 11V [4][6].

The craft of non-standard sizes

The company lived off what is missing from other people's catalogs: the main page of its website openly invited anyone whom the sizes of off-the-shelf equipment from Russia, Italy, Germany, and China did not suit to call. The customer came with his own dimensions, or sometimes with ready-made drawings or sketches, and the workshop made the item to match [7].

Its own metalworking shop made it possible to assemble a complete professional kitchen: wash sinks, production and cutting tables, kitchen shelving units and wall-mounted shelves for dishes, carts and pin-rack carts, exhaust hoods, grease traps and sand traps, trays, baking sheets, drying racks, chest bins, containers, hoppers for bulk materials, and railings [2][7]. Separate orders were accepted for sheet-metal operations — bending, cutting, and shearing of sheet, circular bending of profile tubing, welding of structural and stainless steels; when necessary, it repaired other makers' equipment or restored parts of it [2]. By the end of the 2010s, the company's description had come to include high-precision computer numerical control machines — plasma, laser, waterjet, and turning-milling [8].

The regular customers are described as municipal and private enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod and the districts of Nizhny Novgorod Region [2][9]; elsewhere the website listed them in more detail — cafés and restaurants, schools, medical institutions [10].

can't find a production table of the size you need – call us; not happy with the bowl sizes in a wash sink – call us; can't find a grease trap of the right size for your sink – call us; nobody sells an exhaust hood of the right size – call us; want to replace the old tank in your banya with a new and reliable one – call us!

Cold and heat

The second line of business explained the company's name: it supplied and installed other manufacturers' commercial and technological equipment. The refrigeration section of the website listed display cases, bonnets, and gondola shelving, chambers and cabinets, monoblock and split systems, chest freezers, panels, and door units [11]; alongside them came electric stoves, oven cabinets, serving lines, vegetable cutters, meat grinders, slicers, and potato peelers [2][9].

By the end of the 2010s this line of business had been wound down: the paragraph about supply and installation vanished from the company's description, leaving only its own metalworking [2][8]. The sections on refrigeration and heating equipment were still holding on in the site's menu [7], and in 2017 a clearance sale of unsold refrigeration equipment appeared there [12].

Tanks, greenhouses, grills

The third line of business, which the website listed separately, was products for country houses and dachas. The company made stainless-steel tanks for banyas, smokehouses, chimneys, grills, greenhouses, ladders, and fencing [3]; to these were added barbecues, gates and wickets, canopies and awnings made of cellular polycarbonate [2], arched structures, and garden furniture [7]. The company did not tie itself to standard designs: the customer received a product made to their own dimensions and sketches [2].

Website at prod-holod.ru

The site opened in 2009; it was built by the Nizhny Novgorod studio "Sayt NN," and a credit to that effect stood in the footer of every page right up to the end [9][7]. By 2020 the menu had grown to two dozen sections — from production tables to electric carts [7], and the "Our Work" page had collected twenty-five or so photos of finished products: baths, tables, carts, tanks [13].

Besides the catalog, the site kept a "Useful Information" section with its own articles on stainless steel: types and grade markings, AISI 430, the advantages and drawbacks of welded and demountable structures, and product care [14]. One article, several pages long, explained what the letters and numbers in the grade 12Kh18N10T mean and why the same steel is called 321 under the American standard; why, after nickel prices doubled, economically alloyed steels such as AISI 430 began to displace the universal AISI 304 in food production, and where they fall short; and why stainless steel sits so well alongside glass, wood, and stone. It all ended with a table of grades with their properties and applications [15].

The "Contacts" page carried links to articles in the Encyclopedia of Nizhny Novgorod — to the page of the firm itself and to the article on the machine-tool plant, which the address line "11 Pamirskaya St." linked to; a circular panorama of the plant's gatehouse was shown by the nnov.ru panorama service [4]. By 2020 the panorama link led to Google Maps instead, and the bottom of the page featured a banner for a Nizhny Novgorod computer repair service — a link exchange in the spirit of the times [6].

Wax Hands

In the fall of 2016 the workshop picked up a side business: equipment for making paraffin souvenirs — "wax hands." A three-dimensional copy of a hand was made in six to seven minutes and sold for 200–500 rubles, and the unit could be set up in a shopping mall or taken to corporate events and birthday parties; the equipment could serve several customers at once [10].

Three designs were offered: a wheeled monoblock clad in sheet metal, with a temperature control unit and a compartment for supplies — for permanent locations; a nesting "matryoshka" version, in which the bath fits into a frame and the whole thing fits in a minivan or a passenger car; and a small two-tank unit for off-site events. How to open and run such a business was explained by the partner site waxhandsnn.ru [10]. The section lasted a little over a year and disappeared from the pages in early 2018 [10].

for more than 15 years we manufactured refrigeration equipment, equipment for cafés and restaurants, schools, and medical institutions, as well as custom-made non-standard equipment

Turnover

The company's financial statements are known for 2004–2010. The firm ended the first of those years at a loss; after that, revenue grew, rising elevenfold over four years and reaching 4.6 million rubles in 2008. In 2009 it fell by almost half and never recovered; that year's profit was 22 thousand rubles, the most modest of the entire period, apart from the loss-making first year [1].

Removal from the Register — and a Continuation

On March 10, 2020, Interdistrict Inspectorate of the Federal Tax Service No. 15 for Nizhny Novgorod Region struck the company from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities as inactive [1].

The business, however, did not come to a halt. In January 2017, at the same address — 11 Pamirskaya Street — the limited liability company Fraktal-NN was registered; its sole owner, Viktor Ivanovich Dresvyannikov, had been a co-owner of ProdKholod since 2003 [1][16]. In its last years the website operated under two names at once: the "Contacts" page listed both firms and two mailing addresses, while the phone number for taking orders remained the same [6][7]. Fraktal-NN is listed as an active microenterprise with one to three employees; its primary line of business is recorded as the manufacture of kitchen furniture [16].

The website itself stayed online for more than a year after the firm was struck from the register, and then the address prod-holod.ru passed to new owners: by 2026 it opened a registrar page reading "domain registered" [17].
