Stankozavod Park is a public park in the Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod and one of the largest green spaces in the district. It is bounded by Perekopskaya Street, Arkticheskaya Street, Goncharova Street, and the Borzovka River.[2] Within Leninsky District, it is surpassed in area only by Dubki Park.[1] Since April 2021, it has been managed by the Municipal Autonomous Cultural Institution "Directorate of Parks and Gardens of the City of Nizhny Novgorod".[2]

History

The park was founded in the 1950s near the Nizhny Novgorod Milling Machine Plant (ZEFS), from which it takes its name. During the Soviet era it had a stage and a dance floor, and Pioneer rallies were held here.[1] After the plant went bankrupt in the 1990s, the territory fell into neglect.[2] In 2011, the Zarechye sports and recreation complex was built adjacent to the park, after which the site was partially tidied up.[2]

2020 Renovation

In March 2020, residents of Leninsky District presented a concept for the park's development as part of the federal programme "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment" (the national project "Housing and Urban Environment").[2] By November of that year the renovation had been completed. On 10 November 2020, Nizhny Novgorod's head of city administration Shalabayev Yuri inspected the updated park and ceremonially presented the residents of Leninsky District with a symbolic key to it.[1]

During the renovation works, 4,600 sq. m of cobblestone paving and 2,500 sq. m of asphalt concrete surfacing were laid in the park, around 360 trees and shrubs were planted, along with nearly 300 flowers. A children's playground, exercise machines, a parkour area, a dog run, chess and draughts tables were installed, and the covered stage was restored. Particularly popular with visitors is the so-called "meeting tree" with pergola swings.[1][2]
