Stankozavod Park is a public park in Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod and one of the largest green spaces in the district. It is situated within the boundaries of Perekopskaya Street, Arkticheskaya Street, Goncharova Street, and the Borzovka River.[2] In Leninsky District, it is surpassed in area only by Dubki Park.[1] Since April 2021, it has been managed by the Municipal Autonomous Cultural Institution "Directorate of Parks and Gardens of Nizhny Novgorod."[2]

History

The park was founded in the 1950s near the Nizhny Novgorod Milling Machine Plant (ZEFS), from which it takes its name. During the Soviet era, it featured a stage and a dance floor, and Pioneer assemblies were held here.[1] After the plant went bankrupt in the 1990s, the grounds fell into disrepair.[2] In 2011, the Zarechye fitness and wellness complex was built adjacent to the park, after which the area was partially tidied up.[2]

2020 Renovation

In March 2020, residents of Leninsky District submitted a development concept for the park under the federal program "Shaping a Comfortable Urban Environment" (the national project "Housing and Urban Environment").[2] The renovation was completed by November of that year. On 10 November 2020, Nizhny Novgorod's mayor Shalabayev Yuri inspected the refurbished park and presented the residents of Leninsky District with a ceremonial key to it.[1]

During the renovation works, 4,600 sq. m of paving stones and 2,500 sq. m of asphalt concrete surface were laid in the park; around 360 trees and shrubs and nearly 300 flowers were planted. A children's playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a parkour area, a dog run, chess and checkers tables were installed, and a covered stage was restored. The restored covered stage is used for cultural events: in August 2022, as part of the "Cultural District" marathon supported by the administration of Nizhny Novgorod and the administration of Leninsky District, a concert by the historical instrument ensemble "LES MOSCOVITES" was held here, featuring a program of Baroque music from the era of Peter I.[3] A particular favorite among visitors is the so-called "meeting tree" with pergola swings.[1][2]
