A permit to build a secondary school in the village of Krutoy, Kstovsky district, Nizhny Novgorod Region, was issued by the Ministry of Construction of Nizhny Novgorod Region in August 2026. The new school will become the settlement's first educational institution of its own and is designed for 1,225 pupils.[1]

Background

Residents of the village of Krutoy had spent about a decade pushing for a school to be built: because it did not exist, children had to travel to classes Bolshaya Elnya) and Zhdanovsky.[2] In 2024, local residents appealed on this issue to Alexander Bastrykin, head of Russia's Investigative Committee, and to Putin.[3] Residents also filmed a video about the lack of a school, which drew almost 200,000 views.[2]

Following the residents' appeals, authorities said the educational facility was planned to be completed in 2027.[3] In 2024, the regional Ministry of Education considered implementing the project under a cooperation agreement between the governments of Nizhny Novgorod Region and Belarus.[2]

Project parameters and developer

The school will be built on Vishnevaya Street in the village of Krutoy.[1] The developer is Kaluga-based company OOO Stroytsentr.[3] The design documentation was prepared by OOO Tekhnologiya of Bryansk.[3] In June 2026, the design documentation and engineering survey results received a positive ruling from the State Expert Review.[1] Information about the issued building permit was published in the register of the regional Ministry of Construction.[3] Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2027.[2]
