The new building of School No. 170 is a three-storey school of 20,300 square metres on Kosmicheskaya Street in the Avtozavodsky District of Nizhny Novgorod, opened on 1 September 2026. The building holds 1,100 pupils and is one of thirteen school facilities built in Nizhny Novgorod Region in recent years under concession agreements.[1][2]

Construction and funding

The building was erected under a concession agreement between the government of Nizhny Novgorod Region and the regional Development Corporation.[1][3] Construction was carried out under the national project "Education", succeeded in 2025, on the instruction of the President of Russia, by the national project "Youth and Children".[3][4] The general director of the regional Development Corporation Igor Ishchenko noted that School No. 170 is one of thirteen educational facilities built in the region under concessions, all of them meeting modern standards.[3][2]

Facilities

The building has 54 classrooms, a large and a small gymnasium, an assembly hall, a canteen, a medical room and a library.[1][5] The grounds include sports and service areas as well as playgrounds and rest areas.[5][6] Particular attention was paid to accessibility: ramps at the entrances, lifts, and separate lavatories for people with limited mobility on every floor.[5][2] The façade is finished in white, grey and green; the interiors are in light tones with bright accents, themed drawings and lettering on the walls.[4]

What it means for the district

The regional minister of education Mikhail Puchkov noted that the new building will fully or partly end the second shift at several schools in the Avtozavodsky District, making study more comfortable for pupils and teachers alike.[3][2] The deputy minister for internal regional and municipal policy Dmitry Grachev stressed that developing school infrastructure matters most in districts with a growing number of families with children, and that children should have every condition for good schooling and for choosing a future profession close to home.[5][4]
