Lyutova Olga Yuryevna (born July 27, 1956, Gorky) — a Nizhny Novgorod educator with a medical background, Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation, and Deputy Director for Academic and Methodological Affairs at the Nizhny Novgorod Medical College; she has held this position for at least seventeen years.[1][2]
A Physician Turned Educator
She graduated from the Gorky Medical Institute named after S. M. Kirov in 1979. Before joining the college, she worked at the Volgo-Vyatka Inspectorate of the Ministry of the Food Industry.[1]
Her approach to medical education at a secondary vocational institution is not that of a mere theorist: she holds a medical degree and has hands-on experience in food industry oversight.[1]
Deputy Director
By the end of the 2000s, Lyutova was serving as Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the Nizhny Novgorod Medical Base College and already held the title of Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation.[1]
She continues to hold the same position — now titled "Deputy Director for Academic and Methodological Affairs" — to this day, meaning she has served in it for at least seventeen consecutive years. To her title of Honored Teacher have been added the distinctions "Excellence in Healthcare" and "Honorary Worker of Secondary Vocational Education of the Russian Federation."[2]
Over those years, the college has changed its name, its director, and its composition: the institution has grown three times through mergers with other vocational schools and colleges.[3][4]
A College That Grew Through Mergers
The institution where Lyutova works was founded in 1920 as an obstetric technical school and passed through a medical polytechnic (1931–1935), a feldsher-obstetric school (1935–1954), and a medical vocational school (1954–1995) before receiving college status in 1995.[4]
In 1995–1996 the college was headed by Alexander Razumovsky, who later became chief physician of City Hospital No. 13; from 1996 to 2014 by Vladimir Smirnov, People's Teacher of Russia; and from 2014 onward by Vladimir Grechko.[4]
In 2008, Nizhny Novgorod Medical Schools No. 2 and No. 3 were merged into the base college, and by a decree of the Nizhny Novgorod Region government dated October 16, 2013, the Bogorodsk Medical College and the Vetluga Medical School joined it as branches.[4] On December 31, 2013, the college of the same name at Ilyinskaya Street, 20 was also merged into it.[3][5]
On December 29, 2015, the word "base" was dropped from the name: since then it has been the State-Funded Vocational Educational Institution of Nizhny Novgorod Region "Nizhny Novgorod Medical College."[3]

The college today
The college enrolls more than four thousand students across nine specializations — from general medicine and obstetrics to pharmacy, dentistry, and medical massage for the visually impaired.[4]
Each year, approximately one thousand graduates go on to work in medical organizations in Nizhny Novgorod and the Region: virtually every mid-level medical worker in the city is a graduate of this college. The college's founder is the Ministry of Health of Nizhny Novgorod Region, and the institution is considered one of the largest in the country among secondary vocational education establishments.[4]
