She graduated from the Gorky Medical Institute named after S. M. The Vetluga Hospital

The hospital that Smirnova headed is the oldest medical institution in the Vetluga Region: a fifteen-bed municipal hospital is recorded in Vetluga as early as 1857; in 1866 it was taken over by the district zemstvo, in 1869 a new building was constructed, and in January 1902 a wing was opened that would later house the outpatient clinic.[6]

The hospital was named after surgeon Pavel Fyodorovich Gusev (1868–1949), a graduate of the medical faculty of Tomsk University, who took charge of the district hospital in the late 1890s and worked there for half a century.[6][7] He served in the Russo-Japanese and First World Wars, in 1914 opened the first X-ray room in Kostroma Governorate, performed more than twenty-one thousand operations over his career, and in 1941 was awarded the title of Honored Physician of the RSFSR.[6][7] The hospital has borne Gusev's name since 1936; a street in Vetluga is also named after him.[6][7]

By the late 2010s, the hospital comprised a polyclinic with a capacity of five hundred visits per shift, women's and children's consultation services, a one-hundred-and-fifteen-bed inpatient ward, two outpatient clinics, a general practice office, and thirteen feldsher-midwife stations.[8] On 1 November 2025, it was announced that the hospitals of Uren, Tonkin, Sharanga, and Vetluga would be merged into the Northern Inter-District Medical Centre, with its main facility in Uren;[9] on 30 April 2026, the Vetluga hospital ceased to exist as an independent legal entity upon joining it.[10]

Luga Medical Centre

Since the late 2010s, Smirnova has been chief physician of the Luga Medical Centre in Vetluga, where she also sees patients as a general practitioner; the centre has a branch in Uren.[3]

On 20 March 2019, the Uren branch of the centre hosted its first blood-typing drive for the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry — the eighth such event held in Nizhny Novgorod Region, and the first in Uren. Thirty people took part.[11]

That day our medical centre saw 30 people. We consider that a very good result for a first time. Some came with their forms already filled in, which showed that people had prepared for the procedure seriously.[11]
