The Oblayevs were a merchant family of Gorodets active in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They engaged in the grain trade and milling, and had enterprises in Gorodets, Tetyushi, and Tashkent. They belonged to the Old Believer merchant community of the Nizhny Novgorod Volga Region.[2]

Trade and Industries

The Oblayevs' business was based on the grain trade and mills. The geography of their enterprises took in Gorodets on the Volga, the Volga town of Tetyushi, and distant Tashkent.[2] Among the family's best-known members were Pyotr Fyodorovich Oblayev and his son Ivan Petrovich Oblayev (the younger), who are mentioned among the Gorodets merchants of the 19th century.[1]

The Mansion and the Local History Museum

The mansion of Ivan Petrovich Oblayev became a landmark of merchant Gorodets. Since 1918 it has housed the local history museum.[2]
