This category collects articles about people who have studied and continue to study the history, nature, and culture of Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. Local history studies in the region have a long tradition: its foundations were laid by Khramtsovsky Nikolai Ivanovich, whose systematic descriptions of the city have not lost their significance to this day, while the writer and ethnographer Pavel Melnikov-Pechersky left extensive accounts of the everyday life and customs of the Volga region. Among the field's contemporary figures are Dyuzhakov Alexander Mikhailovich, keeper of antiquities and a Nizhny Novgorod local historian, and Ostriyanskaya Nina Leonidovna, longtime director of the Sarov Museum of Local History.
