The Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Puppet Theatre) is one of the theatres of Nizhny Novgorod, founded in 1929.[2] It is located in a complex with the children's Orlyonok cinema at Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street, building 39b, Pokrovka. The theatre is one of only two puppet theatres in Russia to hold the title of academic: the title was conferred on September 24, 1997.[1] Over the years of its existence the theatre has staged more than 300 productions.[1]
Company and Craftsmen
Specialists in rare theatrical trades worked in the theatre's company and support services. In particular, Stanislav Aleksandrovich Semikov (born September 19, 1947) — a wood-carving artist and puppet designer — devoted a significant part of his professional career to the theatre.
Artistic Leadership
The post of the theatre's artistic director featured in Nizhny Novgorod's public life: in 2010 the theatre's artistic director was included in the regional list of the "Russian Party of Pensioners" and was considered a possible successor to deputy Anton Averin in the City Council, should Averin have resigned his deputy mandate early upon appointment as deputy head of the region.[1]
