Kalinina Tatyana Stanislavovna (born January 11, 1961, in the city of Bor, Gorky Region) is an educator who has served as director of Nizhny Novgorod Gymnasium No. 2 since 2002, and is an Honored Worker of General Education of the Russian Federation [1][2]. Under her leadership, the school near the Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka won four times in the competition for institutions implementing innovative programs, and received the Nizhny Novgorod Prize [3].

From a school in Bor to a gymnasium

She graduated from the Gorky State Pedagogical Institute named after Gorky in 1982 [1]. She worked as a teacher of Russian language and literature, then as deputy director for educational affairs at Secondary School No. 4 in the city of Bor, and later as deputy director for academic and educational affairs at School No. 110 in Nizhny Novgorod [1].

In 2002, she became head of Gymnasium No. 2 and has led it to this day [1][4].

Her professional interests, as noted in the reference guide, include health-preserving and person-centered pedagogical technologies [1]. She led the development and implementation of the teaching and methodological complexes "World of Nature" for grades 5–6, "Chemistry" for grade 8, "History of the Formation of a Scientific Picture of the World" for grades 10–11, and the targeted programs "Gifted Children," "Ochag," "Health," and "Information Without Borders" [1].

Gymnasium No. 2

The school opened on 1 September 1975 and operates in the Kanavino District, not far from the Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka, across two buildings — at 16a Manufakturnaya Street (the middle and secondary school) and at 4 Mir Boulevard (the primary school); it has no branches [5].

Today it is the Municipal Autonomous General Education Institution "Gymnasium No. 2"; the functions of the founder on behalf of the city are carried out by the Department of Education of the Administration of Nizhny Novgorod [5]. In the legal entities register, the gymnasium is listed with TIN 5257016731 and OGRN 1025202402202; the director is Kalinina [4].

The gymnasium operates as a city resource center; it is home to the school theater "Volshebnaya Maska" ("Magic Mask") and the sports club "Start" [5].

The gymnasium's achievements

The gymnasium has four times been a winner of the priority national project "Education" in the competition for institutions implementing innovative programs — in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2012; it was a laureate of the all-Russian competition "Best Schools of Russia — 2007" and a winner of the regional stage of the competition "Best Schools of Russia — 2010" [3].

In 2010, the gymnasium's creative team was awarded the Nizhny Novgorod Prize in the "Education" category for the results of its development program [3].

Two district-level centers grew out of the gymnasium: the resource and methodological center of Kanavino District (2007) and the resource center for spiritual-moral education and civic education (2010) [3]. Since 2009, the program "The Gymnasium's Cultural Space" has been running here, with the program "Memory of the Heart: From the Legacy of Our Ancestors to the Heritage of the Future" as its continuation [3].

With these programs, the gymnasium twice — in 2009 and 2010 — became a winner and prize recipient in the regional stage of the all-Russian pedagogy competition "For a Moral Feat," and the project "Kanavino Soboryane" won the international grant competition "Orthodox Initiative — 2012" [3].
