Manufakturnaya Street is a street in Kanavino District of Nizhny Novgorod, laid out during the Soviet era on land that once belonged to the Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka.[1]
Location and history
The street is part of a group of thoroughfares laid out on the former yarmarka grounds surrounding the Main Yarmarka Building. Together with Dolzhanskaya Street and Sovnarkомovskaya Street, Yarmarochny Proyezd, and Bulvar Mira, it forms the planning framework of this part of Kanavino District.[1] Before the revolution, the extensive territory around the Main Yarmarka Building was occupied by the permanent and temporary trading halls of the yarmarka.[1]
Buildings
Historical photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries document the adjacent Manufakturnaya Embankment, with views from Aleksandro-Nevskaya Street and the Bubnov Passages — the photographs were taken by photographer M. P. Dmitriev between 1880 and 1916.[2] Among the notable addresses on the street itself are No. 7, No. 12 with its courtyard (photographed in November 1986), and No. 16a, which housed School No. 2 (documented in photographs from 1985–1987).[1][3][4]
