Installation of the second pylon of the cable car across the Oka — a construction event that took place on 16 September 2026 in Nizhny Novgorod, marking one of the stages in the erection of the new passenger cable crossing between the upper and lower riverside parts of the city. The line, scheduled for completion in 2027, is to connect three stations and reduce the travel time between the banks to approximately 15 minutes.[1]

Construction progress

The second pylon was erected on Bauman Street in immediate proximity to the intermediate Tikhaya Gavan station currently under construction.[2] The station itself is being built in the area of Bauman, Matrosskaya, and Pravdinskaya streets.[1] The first pylon was installed earlier — in early August 2026 on Zarechny Boulevard.[2] Local residents shared photographs of the second pylon's installation on social media; a report on the event was broadcast by GTRK Nizhny Novgorod.[2]

The project provides for the installation of 15 pylons in total, made of high-strength steel.[2] A steel cable 54 millimetres in diameter, weighing more than 80 tonnes in total, was delivered to the city for installation of the suspension system.[1]

Route parameters

A new cable car will connect the Upper Town and Zarechka parts of Nizhny Novgorod. The line will have three stations: "Bulvar Zarechnyy," "Tikhaya Gavan," and "Gagarin Avenue."[1] Once in service, the crossing will take approximately 15 minutes — about half an hour less than via existing routes.[1] The line's projected capacity is over 30,000 passengers per day.[1] Construction is scheduled for completion in 2027.[1]
