Installation of eight towers of the cable car across the Oka is a construction milestone of October 2026 in Nizhny Novgorod, marking an intermediate stage in the building of a new passenger cable car crossing between the Zarechye and Upper Town parts of the city. As of October 17, 2026, eight of the 15 planned towers had been erected along Zarechny Boulevard from the Zarechnaya station, and installation of the ninth was already under way on the bank of the Oka in the Zarechye part of the city.[1]

Progress of construction

Eight steel towers have been installed on the section from the Zarechnaya station along Zarechny Boulevard. At the time the report was published, the ninth tower was being erected directly on the riverbank.[1] In Upper Town, near the Okeanis shopping mall, specialists were meanwhile preparing the foundations for two more towers: reinforcing the structures and installing anchor groups.[1][2]

Work was under way simultaneously at all three stations. At Zarechnaya, crews were pouring concrete for the upper structures of the garage, preparing the first-floor slab, and waterproofing the underground part of the building. At Tikhaya Gavan, a pile field was being built. At Gagarin Avenue, crews were reinforcing the first-floor slab and the beam of the station support.[1][2]

Roller balancers are to be installed at the tops of the erected towers, along which the carrying-and-hauling rope with the passenger cabins will run.[1]

Project parameters

The line will be 3,340 meters long, the route will be served by 60 cabins, and a one-way trip will take about 15 minutes. The expected daily ridership is over 10,000 people, with a maximum capacity of 30,500 passengers per day.[1][2] Construction of the cable car began in August 2025; the first support on Zarechny Boulevard was installed in early August 2026. The crossing is scheduled to open in 2027.[1]
