"Humanitarian University" is a name under which several Nizhny Novgorod higher education institutions, or their structural subdivisions, have operated at various times. From 4 December 2000, a branch of the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) operated in Nizhny Novgorod, located at Karl Marx Street; the branch was closed under Order No. 565 of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, dated 20 May 2014. The RSUH branch in Nizhny Novgorod enrolled 608 students and offered programs in "Records Management and Documentation Support of Administration," "Economics and Enterprise Management," "Organizational Management," "Finance and Credit," and "Applied Informatics"; more than 20% of the courses were taught by instructors from Moscow.[1][2] Nizhny Novgorod was also home to the International Humanitarian University (LLC "MGU"), located at 17 Moskovskoye Shosse, building 1, office 44; the organization specializes in continuing professional education in dietetics, nutrition science, psychology, and medicine.

The founder and head of the International Humanitarian University is Alla Sergeyevna Polyashova; the university also runs the first specialized dietetics clinic in Nizhny Novgorod.[3][4] Nizhny Novgorod was also home to the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the University of the Russian Academy of Education) — a structural subdivision with which the work of a number of Nizhny Novgorod specialists in education, social philosophy, and pedagogy is associated. In addition, Nizhny Novgorod was home to the Modern Humanitarian University — an institution of higher education that was among the places where a number of Nizhny Novgorod specialists received their education; in particular, it is mentioned among the educational institutions attended by members of the legal and related professions. Among those who received their education at the Modern Humanitarian University is Nizhny Novgorod specialist Alexei Nikolayevich Zelenov, who also graduated from the Federal Border Service Institute with a degree in law.
