The Nizhny Novgorod Branch of the International Independent Ecological and Political Science University (MNEPU Academy) was a private higher education institution that operated in Nizhny Novgorod as a division of its parent Moscow university, founded in 1992. In April 2018, Rosobrnadzor suspended the MNEPU Academy's license, after which student enrollment at the Nizhny Novgorod division was discontinued. The university positioned itself as the only specialized environmental university in Russia.

Parent organization

The International Independent Ecological and Political Science University was founded in 1992 with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, the Education Committee of the Moscow Government, and the Moscow Power Engineering Institute.[1] The university's structure included 16 departments employing more than 400 instructors, 72% of whom held academic degrees and titles.[1] In addition to higher education programs — up to the master's level, along with a dissertation council — the university operated a college, a pre-university preparation center, an international programs center, and a publishing house.[1] Branches and representative offices were opened in more than 20 regions of Russia and the CIS, including Penza, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, and Baikonur (Kazakhstan).[2] The total number of the university's graduates exceeded 20,000.[1] The parent university's state accreditation certificate is series 90A01 No. 0757 of July 19, 2013.[1]

The Nizhny Novgorod division operated under license No. 1380 of June 9, 2011, and accreditation No. 0757 of July 19, 2013.[2] The following fields of study were available through the Nizhny Novgorod access point: ecology and environmental management, political science, psychology, law, psychological and pedagogical education, economics, management, service, advertising and public relations, and state and municipal administration.[2] Continuing education programs covered environmental auditing, environmental design, geoecology, rational subsoil use, criminal and civil law, accounting, personnel management, state and municipal administration, healthcare management, strategic planning, and a number of other subjects.[1]
