"Zolotoy Podium" ("Golden Podium") is a Nizhny Novgorod fashion festival — the city's first and best-known competition for fashion designers. It launched in 1995 and was the only fashion forum in the Russian regions where Collections by established designers were shown on the same runway as the work of newcomers.[1]

Concept

The festival's organizers outlined its mission in three points: to develop the fashion industry in the Volga Region, to support and promote talented designers, and to bring the finest examples of Russian and international fashion to Nizhny Novgorod.[1] The logic of the format lay in proximity: an emerging designer stepped onto the same runway as an established name and played to the same audience.

The festival grew up around Elena Korableva, and her departure from the city proved decisive: when Korableva left for St. Petersburg, "Zolotoy Podium" came to an end.[2]

What remained

The festival's most lasting legacy was a generation of children's fashion theatre groups: they sprang up at nearly every Palace of Culture and even in ordinary schools. Young designers grew up, took part in their own children's competitions, and in time wanted a place on the main stage — alongside the celebrated names.[2]

That ambition gave rise to the festival "Obraz, Zvuk, Ritm" ("Image, Sound, Rhythm"), which designer Tatyana Iordan organized on 27 May 2010 at the Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theatre: no jury, no restrictions on themes or materials, with fashion shows interspersed with musical and dance performances. The first half of the programme was given over to young designers, the second to established ones; Elena Korableva made the trip from St. Petersburg to attend.[2]

The 2013 revival

In spring 2013, "Zolotoy Podium" was held again — at the LP Fashion 9B Gallery.[1][3] The festival brought together designer shows, photo reports, and video recordings, all of which remained on its website: the first images from the venue appeared there on 27 April, and the final materials were posted in late June 2013.[3]

That is where the festival's story ends: the site goldpodium.nnewer.ru still loads, but its feed has been frozen at 2013, while the old address goldpodium.in.nn.ru no longer responds.[3]

What replaced it

The role of the region's main fashion showcase has been taken over by other venues. The NITI festival bills itself as the largest fashion and creativity space in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, drawing around five thousand visitors, 96 exhibitors, 62 collection runway shows from 55 designers, a sewing competition with 45 participants, and more than sixty workshops; regional ministries and the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Union of Designers of Russia take part in its programme.[4]

A separate event, the Nizhny Novgorod Fashion Week NiNo Fashion Week, is held as a two-day format combining a business programme with runway shows; in December 2025 it took place at the Futuro Gallery.[5]
