Gavrilov Gennady Nikolaevich (b. 1942) — associate professor at NGTU since 1994. Professor, has headed the Department of Materials Science and Technology of New Materials (MTNM) since 1998.

Key facts of his career

After graduating from the institute he worked as an engineer, and from 1971 as head of the metallographic laboratory of the central plant laboratory (TsZL) at the aircraft factory (now the Sokol Aircraft Manufacturing Plant). He studied in extramural postgraduate study and defended his candidate's dissertation on metallurgical problems of high-strength corrosion-resistant steels. From 1984 he headed the "Metal Science and Laser Technologies" sector at the "Sirius" Research Institute of the Shipbuilding Industry. He has held a staff position as associate professor at NGTU since 1994. In 2000 he defended his doctoral dissertation, summarizing years of work on the problem of the effect of laser radiation on the hardening of metals.

Membership in public, scientific and other organizations

Member of the Collegium of National Experts of CIS Member States on Lasers and Laser Technologies, head of the Volga Regional Branch of the Scientific-Methodological Council on Materials Science and Structural Materials Technology, member of the editorial board of the journal "Metal Technology," member of two dissertation councils.

Awards

Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Author of a book and more than 90 published works.
