Key facts of his career
Participant in the Civil War, took part in combat operations in 1919. A specialist in X-ray structural analysis, in 1934 he founded the department of metal physics at Lobachevsky University. Until 1947 he worked mainly at physical-technical institutes in Leningrad, Gorky, and Dnepropetrovsk, at the Izhevsk steel plant, the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, and at TsNIIChermet (Moscow). From 1947 to 1957 he headed the "Metal Science" department at the Gorky Polytechnic Institute.
Innovations
He founded a new scientific field in the theory and technology of powder metallurgy, and was the first in the USSR to begin research into the rolling of metal powders. From 1950 he began training scientific personnel through postgraduate study at the department, and set up an X-ray laboratory. He headed laboratories and departments dealing with X-ray analysis, residual stresses, and metal physics. He served as dean of the Faculty of Metallurgy from 1956 to 1957. Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. Honored Scientist and Engineer of the RSFSR. Author of a scientific monograph and more than 200 publications. He supervised 18 candidates of technical sciences.
