Key Activities
Participant in the Civil War, took part in combat operations in 1919. A specialist in X-ray structural analysis, he established the Department of Metal Physics in 1934 at Gorky State University. Until 1947, he worked primarily at physics and technology institutes in Leningrad, Gorky, and Dnepropetrovsk, at the Izhevsk Steel Plant, the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine, and at TsNIIChERMET (Moscow). From 1947 to 1957, he served as head of the Department of Physical Metallurgy at Gorky Polytechnic Institute.
Innovations
He established a new scientific field in the theory and technology of powder metallurgy, and was the first in the USSR to begin research on the rolling of metallic powders. From 1950, he began training research personnel through postgraduate study at the department and created an X-ray laboratory. He headed laboratories and departments focused on X-ray analysis, residual stresses, and metal physics. He served as dean of the metallurgical faculty from 1956 to 1957. Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences. Honored Scientist and Engineer of the RSFSR. Author of a scientific monograph and more than 200 publications. Trained 18 Candidates of Technical Sciences.
