«Systemnaya Sborka. Nizhny Novgorod» ("System Assembly. Nizhny Novgorod") is an exhibition project devoted to Nizhny Novgorod Region, held in Paris from 11 September to 1 November 2026. The exhibition presented works by Artists of Nizhny Novgorod to an international audience and became the first overseas showing of a regional project initiated by the Moscow Triumph Gallery in partnership with the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.[1][2]

History of the project

The Paris exhibition grew out of the project "Systemnaya Sborka. Nizhny Novgorod: A Chronicle of Flowering Events", conceived by the Triumph contemporary art gallery and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region in 2023–2024. Before Paris, the project was shown successively Kazan.[2][3] "Systemnaya Sborka" as a whole is an ongoing series of exhibitions by the Triumph Gallery that examines, through artists and local communities, the cultural processes shaping the art scene of various Russian cities.[1][3] The Paris edition was realised with the support of T-Private, a premium service of T-Bank for affluent clients.[1]

Exhibition

The venue was the Russian Orthodox Spiritual and Cultural Centre (Centre Spirituel et Culturel Orthodoxe Russe) at 1 Quai Jacques Chirac, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. The vernissage took place on 10 September 2026, and the exhibition opened to the regular public the following day.[1][3]

The exhibition comprised works created between 2016 and 2026: paintings, graphic works, textile objects, ceramics, and installations. The participants included both independent artists and those associated with Nizhny Novgorod institutions: the Futuro Gallery, the Terminal A Centre for Contemporary Art, Gallery 9B, and the Tikhaya studio.[1][2] Thematically, the works are united by questions of local identity, the artist's relationship with space, memory, and the viewer.[3][4]

The exhibition is divided into three parts:

  • the first is devoted to engaging with local context and the perception of place;[1][3]
  • the second addresses street art — one of the most recognisable features of Nizhny Novgorod's cultural life — and includes an archive of Street Art in Nizhny Novgorod documenting the practices of young artists of recent years who work outside traditional exhibition spaces;[1][2]
  • the third part is located in the centre's foyer and is accompanied by a parallel programme and mediation sessions. The participants in the Paris exhibition were: Ilya Barabanov, Ivan Belov, Vatsa, Dmitry Zhukov, Lev Kays, Aleksandr Lavrov, Nikita Mera, Andrey Olenev, Yury Otinov, Danya Pirogov, Nikita Pirumov, Sofya Pogodina, the group Provmyza, Evgeniy Strelkov, Polina Strizh, Evgeniya Tut, and Nikita Etogo; the European announcement additionally mentions the Bomse team. On 19 and 20 September 2026 the exhibition took part in the European Heritage Days programme: on those days admission was free and open without advance registration from 12:00 to 19:00.[5] The exhibition was curated by Kristina Romanova, with Artur Knyazev as her assistant.[5][1][3]

The project's first showing, in Moscow, ran from 24 November 2023 to 21 January 2024 under the title "A Chronicle of Flowering Events".[5]
