LLC "Ecological Projects" (OOO «Экологические проекты») is a Nizhny Novgorod contracting organization acting as the concessionaire for the large-scale reconstruction of the Nizhny Novgorod tram network. The company has operated since at least 2022, when the program to renew the city's electric transport began.[3] The organization's director is Yevgeny Grabovsky.[2]
Concession for the reconstruction of the tram network
A concession agreement for the modernization of Nizhny Novgorod's tram infrastructure has been concluded with LLC "Ecological Projects". The agreement covers the replacement of about 150 km of single-track tram lines, the renovation of three depots and 15 traction substations, as well as the purchase of 170 new tram cars.[3] Since the program began in 2022, about 120 km of tracks had been replaced by August 2026; work in the upland (nagornaya) part of the city is practically complete, while in the trans-river (zarechnaya) part it is in its final stage.[1]
Reconstruction of the section from Park 1 Maya to Aksakova Street
In May 2025, the company began reconstructing the tram tracks on the section from Park 1 Maya to Aksakova Street in the Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. In August 2026 the work was completed: more than 12 km of single track was replaced, the overhead contact network was fully renewed, and new support poles were installed.[2] Part of the route — from Park 1 Maya to Krasnaya Etna — had been laid about a hundred years ago.[2]
Director Yevgeny Grabovsky said the reconstruction took place under difficult conditions: dense urban development, intersections with engineering utilities, and the need for additional protection of gas pipelines and other utility lines. The timing of the work was affected by weather conditions and the need to coordinate with city services.[3] Upon completion of the reconstruction, tram route No. 417 returned to the renovated tracks and now runs on the route from Moskovsky Railway Station to Aksakova Street and back.[4]
The results of the work on the section were inspected by Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Gleb Nikitin, Deputy Governor Sergei Morozov, and Deputy Chairman of the regional government Pavel Savateyev.[1]
Current and upcoming work
In parallel with completing the section in the Leninsky District, the company is carrying out track reconstruction from Park Dubki to Komsomolskaya Square, on the stretches between Sotsgorod-1 and Sotsgorod-2 in the Avtozavodsky District, and has also begun renovating the tracks from Igarskaya Street to the Severnaya Prokhodnaya (North Checkpoint). In 2027, rail replacement is planned on Kirov Avenue and Molodyozhny Avenue in the Avtozavodsky District.[3]
