Park Named After May 1st is a city park in the Leninsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. The exact date of its founding is not given in the available sources, but the park existed since at least the late 1930s: it was here, in 1939, that one of the terminal stations of the Gorky Children's Railroad was opened.
Children's Railway
From 1939 to 1965 the park served as the eastern terminal station of the Gorky Children's Railway — Rodina station. The opposite terminal was located at the "Schastlivaya" platform. During that period the Children's Railway ran a considerable length and effectively served as city transport, duplicating the overloaded tram routes. Rodina station in the park, unlike Schastlivaya, has survived and continues to operate as part of the children's railway.
Location and current use
The park is among the cultural and leisure sites of the Leninsky District. On days of city celebrations, the park's grounds are used for district events: on City Day, festive programs and dances are held here.
