Zaitsev Street is a street in the Sormovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. The street is named after Nikolay Alekseevich Zaitsev (January 27, 1922 – December 3, 1967), chief engineer of the Central Design Bureau for Hydrofoil Vessels (TsKB SPK), laureate of the Lenin Prize and the USSR State Prize, who was born in the selo of Lomakino in Gaginsky District and graduated from the Nizhny Novgorod Industrial Institute.[4] It is located near the Novo-Sormovskoye Cemetery. The street is dominated by Soviet-era multi-apartment residential buildings, along with a number of social facilities.

Buildings and Infrastructure

The residential buildings on the street include brick nine-story apartment blocks built in the 1980s. Building No. 1 was built in 1985: a nine-story brick building with one entrance and 125 apartments; the average ceiling height is 2.5 m.[5] Building No. 3 was constructed in 1982: nine stories, one entrance, 125 apartments; the ceiling height is about 2.5–2.6 m.[1][2] Building No. 2 dates from 1983 and likewise has 125 apartments on nine stories.[1] School No. 79 named after N. A. Zaitsev (building 18a) operates on the street. The Sormovsky District also has the N. A. Zaitsev Central District Children's Library, one of the libraries of the district's Centralized Library System.[4][1]

Crematorium

In 2017, a crematorium was built on Zaitsev Street, next to the Novo-Sormovskoye Cemetery — at the time the only one operating in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.[3] About 20 cremations are performed here daily.[3] A public memorial complex, the "Garden Named After," operates at the crematorium.[3]
