The Volga Regatta 2026 was a sailing competition held in Nizhny Novgorod on August 15, 2026, on the day of the city's 805th anniversary celebration. The event took place for the sixth time and unfolded simultaneously on the waters of the Volga and the Oka.[1]
Program and routes
The regatta opened at 09:00 at the OKA yacht club on Vorotynskaya Street, 1A. The traditional parade of sails ran from 10:00 to 11:30: a column of yachts in a single-file formation proceeded along the Volga from the Borsky Bridge Strelka) River Station and The Chkalov Staircase Nizhny Novgorod Cable Car.[1]
On the Volga opposite the Chkalov Stairs, the "Wind Power" ("Sily Vetra") competitions in the SV20 and "Raketa-NN" classes ran from 09:00 to 14:00, while opposite the River Station windsurfers gave exhibition performances from 10:00 to 17:00. The highlight of the racing program was the races from 12:00 to 17:00 in the Open 800, Carter 30, Quarter Ton, and ORC classes opposite the Chkalov Stairs and the Nizhne-Volzhskaya Embankment.[1]
On the Oka, a "SUP parade" with 200 stand-up paddleboarders took place from 10:30 to 12:00 — in 2026 professionals outnumbered amateurs among them. Participants proceeded from the metro bridge along the Grebnevsky Canal to the Nizhne-Volzhskaya Embankment.[2]
