Zorya Valeriy Vasilevich (born September 14, 1953, Donetsk Region) — Candidate of Physical Sciences, specialist in innovation management, and since 2000 Vice-Rector for Research and Extra-Budgetary Activities at the Sarov Institute of Physics and Technology, and President of the Sarov branch of the Russian Association of Medical Physicists.[1]
Aeronautical engineering and the nuclear center
He graduated from the Kharkov Aviation Institute in 1977 with a degree in aeronautical mechanical engineering, and in 1999 completed a management qualification at the LINK International Institute of Management.[1]
From 1992 to 1997 he headed the business center of the Sarov nuclear center VNIIEF, and from 1997 to 2000 served as laboratory head at the institute and directed the bureau of the Russian academy consortium.[1]
The institution where he worked — the Russian Federal Nuclear Center — VNIIEF — remains in operation today.[2]
Conversion and business plans
Zorya's research interests lie in innovation management and business planning. His work focuses on the conversion of VNIIEF; he prepared feasibility studies and business plans in the field of fuel cells and edited English translations of physics books.[1]
He is President of the Sarov branch of the Russian Association of Medical Physicists, a professional organization for specialists working at the intersection of physics and medicine. He is fluent in English and is noted for reading as an extracurricular pursuit.[1]
The institute that became a branch
Zorya was appointed Vice-Rector for Research and Extra-Budgetary Activities of the Sarov Institute of Physics and Technology in 2000.[1]
On December 18, 2009, the federal state educational institution of higher professional education known as the "Sarov State Institute of Physics and Technology" ceased to exist as an independent legal entity, having been merged into the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.[3]
Since then, the institute in Sarov has operated as a division of the Moscow nuclear university; the Moscow institution itself remains an active legal entity, registered on 3 February 2003.[3][4]

Sarov Science
Until 2009, the institute held the status of an independent federal state educational institution of higher professional education in Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod Region; following its merger, it operates as part of the nuclear university.[3]
The Moscow institution assumed all rights and obligations of the Sarov institute in full — in the register it is listed as its legal successor.[3][4]
