The Teplokhod Plant is an industrial enterprise located in the Borsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The enterprise was in operation no later than the mid-20th century. In the post-Soviet period, the plant shifted away from the production of floating cranes, which had accounted for 52% of its output, to manufacturing products for the gas, oil, automotive, metallurgical, and aluminum industries; its product range was updated by 90%, and a unique floating bridge across the Volga was built to order for the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Administration.[1] In 1993, to order for the German firm Offshore-Service, the plant built a coastal-navigation pontoon that received a high technical assessment; after this, its shipbuilding production was certified by Germanischer Lloyd and entered into its database.

In 2016, the plant signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense for the construction of large hydrographic boats of Project 23040G; in the same year, two roadstead diving boats for integrated emergency rescue support of Project 23040, RVK-1229 and RVK-1230, were ceremonially launched. In 2017–2021, the plant successively delivered to the Russian Navy serial boats of Project 23040 and large hydrographic boats of Project 23040G: in particular, in 2021 the Navy received the hydrographic boat Boris Slobodnik, and in 2020 the diving boat Grom and three roadstead boats for integrated emergency rescue support.[2][2][1] Since 1956, the plant has built 1,595 floating and shore cranes with lifting capacities of 5, 16, and 100 tons; it is the only enterprise in Russia with experience in building floating cranes and rock-clearing boom floating dredgers.

From its founding, the plant produced not only motor ships but also a wide range of river equipment: barges, tugboats, floating cranes, pontoons, ferries, and minelayers.[3][1] According to available information, the plant was founded in 1911 and is located on the left bank of the Volga in the town of Bor, opposite Nizhny Novgorod. The plant was founded by Dmitry Vasilyevich Sirotkin, born in 1864 into an Old Believer family; the site for the enterprise on the Volga bank was chosen after several attempts, and the plant stands on this very site to this day.[3] The enterprise's industrial zone covers 82 hectares, including 2.3 hectares of water area, and the plant has road, rail, and water access routes.[1]

Notable employees and associated persons

The plant's director in the Soviet period was Viktor Vasilyevich Palagin (born March 18, 1927), an Honorary Citizen of Nizhny Novgorod Region and a graduate of the Gorky Institute of Water Transport Engineers. The plant had its own hospital, whose chief physician in various years was Semyon Lazarevich Gurvich, who later headed the Bor District Hospital.

The career of Aleksandr Viktorovich Kiselyov, head of the administration of Borsky District since December 1, 2005, is also tied to the plant. Before joining the district administration, he rose from process engineer to head of the machining shop, and also worked as a foreman, mechanic, head of the forging and pressing shop, and secretary of the Party committee of the Teplokhod Plant.

The plant includes steel foundry, iron foundry, and forging and pressing operations, mechanical, shipbuilding, and electrode shops, as well as auxiliary production facilities for oxygen and carbon dioxide; the central plant laboratory carries out chemical and spectral analysis of castings, mechanical testing, and non-destructive testing. The plant's slipway facilities are equipped with lifting equipment of up to 60 tons, rolling tracks, and ship-launching carriages; the lifting equipment includes a slipway crane with a capacity of 5 tons and two gantry cranes with capacities of 30 and 60 tons; the total area of the slipway section is 26,500 sq. m. In 2023, the enterprise took part in the national project "Labor Productivity": a lean manufacturing system was introduced, which increased output. The enterprise holds an international certificate of conformity to the ISO 9001 standard; in 2007, the plant's revenue was about 200 million rubles.[3][2][2][1]
