Honorary Citizen of Nizhny Novgorod Region is an honorary title awarded for outstanding contributions to the region. Among its notable holders are conductor Israel Gusman, upon whom it was conferred in 1996; the chairman of the board of directors of JSC "Gidromash" Luzyanin; and GAZ Group president Sorokin, who received this title before being awarded Honorary Citizen of Nizhny Novgorod.

  • Gusman, Israel Borisovich (1917–2003) — conductor, People's Artist of Russia, who led Philharmonic from 1957 to 1987. Awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Nizhny Novgorod Region in 1996.
  • Luzyanin — chairman of the board of directors of Nizhny Novgorod JSC "Gidromash," Hero of Socialist Labor, State Prize laureate, academician of the International Academy of Informatization, and honorary doctor of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev.
  • Sorokin, Vadim Nikolaevich (born June 13, 1956) — president of GAZ Group, under whose leadership from 2008 the model range was expanded and highly automated production facilities were established. He had already held the title of Honorary Citizen of Nizhny Novgorod Region before being awarded honorary citizenship of Nizhny Novgorod.
