A Sunday school is a form of supplementary religious education in which classes are held, as a rule, once a week at a religious organization (a church, mosque, or monastery). In Nizhny Novgorod Region there are both Orthodox and Muslim Sunday schools. This term has several meanings:
- Mektebe Arafat — a Muslim Sunday school (maktab) operating since 1995 at the Cathedral Mosque of the city of Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region.
- Mektebe Ihsan ("a place for sincere diligence in worshipping the Almighty") — a Sunday school at the Cathedral Mosque.
- Mektebe Rashida — a Muslim Sunday school at the Rashid Mosque in the village of Medyana (Myadyana) in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, part of an Islamic cultural and educational complex.
Detailed information on each of these educational institutions is given in the corresponding encyclopedia articles; a general overview of the region's Islamic educational institutions can be found in the article "Islamic Educational Institutions in the Nizhny Novgorod Region".
