A Sunday school is a form of supplementary religious education in which classes are held, as a rule, once a week at a religious organization (a church, mosque, or monastery). In Nizhny Novgorod Region there are both Orthodox and Muslim Sunday schools. The term has several meanings:
- Mektebe Arafat is a Muslim Sunday school (maktab) that has operated since 1995 at the Cathedral Mosque of the city of Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region.
- Mektebe Ikhsan ("a place for sincere diligence in worshiping the Almighty") is a Sunday school at the Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral Mosque.
- Mektebe Rashida is a Muslim Sunday school at the Rashida Mosque in the village of Medyana (Myadyana) in Krasnooktyabrskiy District, Nizhny Novgorod Region, forming part of an Islamic cultural and educational complex.
- School No. 2 (Vorsma) is a general education school in the town of Vorsma with a capacity of 600 students, built under the "Youth and Children" national project on the site of a building more than 65 years old and opened on Knowledge Day in 2026; it has been switched to a single-shift schedule.
