A mosque is a Muslim place of worship; in Nizhny Novgorod Region it is one of the key elements of Islamic infrastructure, concentrated mainly in Tatar villages and urban communities. According to DUMNO, at the time of the organizational survey there were 57 mosques operating in Nizhny Novgorod Region, united under the administration of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Organizational structure

The region's mosques operate within the Nizhny Novgorod mukhtasibats — territorial Islamic districts whose activities are centrally coordinated by DUMNO. A number of mosques have established Islamic educational institutions: Mektebe), as well as secondary vocational institutions.

Mosques attached to educational complexes

An example of a rural mosque with a developed cultural and educational infrastructure is Rashid Mosque (Krasnooktyabrsky District). Since 1992 it has run the "Mektebe Rashida" Sunday school, part of the Medina Islamic cultural and educational complex.
