Over the month, Pro Gorod Nizhny Novgorod rose (from 17th place to 6th, with coverage up from 3% to 21%) and Nizhegorodskie Novosti rose (from 13th to 9th, coverage up from 4% to 14%); Business News. Time to Earn dropped (from 9th to 12th), Govorit Nizhny dropped (from 11th to 13th, though coverage rose from 7% to 9%), and GIPERNN dropped (from 8th to 10th). NNTV appears in the table for the first time.
How it was calculated
The ranking tracks 51 media outlets and official sources of Nizhny Novgorod Region. Each day's publications are grouped into topics by the similarity of their headlines; a topic counts as significant if several outlets cover it or if it directly affects the subject of an encyclopedia article — there are about 360 such topics a week on average.
Coverage is the share of significant topics that an outlet covered with at least one publication. Published first is the share of an outlet's topics on which it came out ahead of the others, to within a day. Both indicators are averaged over the month's daily measurements; in October 2026 there were 31.
The ranking compares editorial teams, so it excludes aggregators, official websites of government agencies, and outlets that have been designated undesirable organizations in Russia, blocked, or stripped of their media license. The ranking measures participation in the general news agenda, not the quality of journalism: a highly specialized outlet can be indispensable even with small coverage.
1. Vremya N
A general-interest city and regional outlet covering a wide range of topics: regional politics and governance, the economy, social services, housing and utilities, transport, law and order, ecology, and culture. Alongside the Nizhny Novgorod agenda, it publishes material of national scope — on nationwide trends in the digital sphere, the labor market, and consumer behavior.[1]
2. NIA Nizhny Novgorod"
A news agency focused mainly on the official and socially significant agenda of Nizhny Novgorod Region: the work of government bodies, international cooperation, industry, healthcare, sports, social programs, and volunteering. It publishes both news items and analytical briefs on current regional issues.[2]
3. Newsroom24
A mixed-format city outlet that combines Nizhny Novgorod news — city administration, transport, incidents, the urban environment, the budget, events listings — with entertainment and national-level material. Its agenda covers mainly Nizhny Novgorod itself, though some pieces go beyond the region.[3]
4. Otkrytyy Nizhny
A city and regional outlet with a broad range of topics: incidents, transport, the economy, healthcare, ecology, construction, and consumer information. It regularly publishes tips and explainers for readers on everyday, medical, and financial matters.[4]
5. Zhivyom v Nizhnem
A city publication covering everyday life in Nizhny Novgorod and the Region: incidents, utilities, transportation, law and order, social issues, and migration. Alongside its news chronicle, it publishes material in the formats of folk omens, consumer advice, and brief notes on city events.[5]
6. Pro Gorod Nizhny Novgorod
A publication with a pronounced tilt toward consumer and lifestyle content: tips on housekeeping, handicrafts, gardening, cooking, and holiday preparation make up a significant share of its output. City and regional news is present, but plays a supporting role to the entertainment and practical content.[6]
7. GTRK "Nizhny Novgorod" (Vesti)
The website of the regional branch of VGTRK, publishing announcements and transcripts of episodes of the "Vesti-Privolzhye" television program, as well as original material on the public, political, cultural, and sports life of Nizhny Novgorod Region. Its coverage spans both the regional capital and the municipal districts of the Region.[7]
8. NN.RU
A major Nizhny Novgorod city portal with a broad range of topics: city infrastructure, transportation, incidents, law and order, weather, consumer issues, sports, and public life. Material based on appeals and complaints from residents plays a significant role, giving the publication the character of a platform for city communication.[8]
9. Nizhegorodskiye Novosti
A regional publication that gives notable attention to the cultural, educational, and public life of the Region alongside the traditional topics of politics, transportation, and the economy. It regularly covers the activities of cultural institutions, professional competitions, environmental initiatives, and social projects.[9]
10. HyperNN
A specialized publication focused on urban development, real estate, city planning, and the preservation of the architectural heritage of Nizhny Novgorod and the Region. It publishes material on construction projects, housing and utilities decisions, the reconstruction of historic buildings, and urban planning.[10]
11. NNTV
The website of a Nizhny Novgorod television channel, publishing material on the public, political, cultural, and sports life of the region, as well as event announcements. Its coverage spans both city and regional events, including the activities of government bodies, the nonprofit sector, and cultural institutions.[11]
12. Business News. Time to Earn
A business publication focused on economic and financial statistics — industrial production, trade, the real estate market, the banking sector, and foreign economic activity. Its coverage spans Nizhny Novgorod Region and the neighboring regions of the Volga Federal District, which sets it apart from outlets with a purely city-level focus.[12]
13. Govorit Nizhny
A city and regional outlet publishing a news chronicle with a broad range of topics: transportation, incidents, ecology, the urban environment, culture, sports, and law and order. Alongside news items, it also carries commentary and expert explainers.[13]
14. nn.dk.ru
A regional business outlet covering the economy, investment, the real estate market, industry, budget policy, and entrepreneurship in Nizhny Novgorod Region. It publishes analytical digests and reviews alongside breaking business news.[14]
15. TASS
A federal news agency; its Nizhny Novgorod section publishes items on events in the region selected by nationwide-significance criteria — incidents, the activities of government bodies, industry, transportation, and defense. The regional agenda is presented in the standard format of a wire news item, without editorial assessments.[15]
16. NewsNN
A city and regional outlet of mixed format, combining a breaking news chronicle — transportation, housing and utilities, law and order, the economy, healthcare — with advice pieces, forecasts, and interviews. Alongside informational genres, it makes heavy use of attention-grabbing headlines and a conversational style of presentation.[16]
