Methodology
47 outlets and official sources of Nizhny Novgorod Region are monitored. Each day's publications are grouped into topics by semantic similarity of headlines; a topic is considered significant if it is covered by multiple outlets or directly concerns the subject of an encyclopedia article — on average, 183 such topics arise per week.
Coverage — the share of significant topics for which an outlet published at least one item. First to publish — the share of its topics for which an outlet was ahead of all others, to the nearest day. Both metrics are averaged across the daily measurements taken during the month; in August 2026 there were 22 such measurements.
The ranking compares editorial outlets and therefore excludes aggregators, official government websites, and outlets designated as undesirable organizations in Russia, blocked, or with a revoked media license. The ranking measures participation in the general news agenda, not journalistic quality: a narrowly specialized outlet may be indispensable even with a low coverage score.
