"Nizhny Novgorod Passenger Motor Transport Enterprise" (abbreviated "Nizhegorodpassazhiravtotrans") is a Nizhny Novgorod organization that carries passengers by bus on city routes. It operates as a joint-stock company (AO). The association includes several branches — bus depots with their own numbers, which developed historically in different districts of the city.[1]
Structure and Branches
AO Nizhegorodpassazhiravtotrans includes several numbered motor transport enterprises. NPAP No. 2 is located at 43 Respublikanskaya Street.[3] NPAP No. 3 is located at 171 Rodionov Street and serves bus routes mainly in the Upper Town of the city: Nos. 1, 2, 5, 16, 19, 26, 27, 28, 30, 37, 40, 41, 45, 52, 53, 53a, 61, 62, and 72.[1]
The history of NPAP No. 3 goes back to Passenger Motor Enterprise No. 3 of the City of Gorky, which existed from 1960 to 2006 on Nartov Street. After some of the depots were closed and the enterprise was reorganized, it received the status of Depot No. 7 on Rodionov Street, and a hypermarket was built on the site of the former enterprise. The former name NPAP No. 3 returned in the course of subsequent renamings; in sources it is also referred to as the former NPAP No. 7.[1]
Fleet Renewal
In 2015, as part of a fleet renewal program, the city purchased 144 gas-powered LiAZ buses, models 5256 and 5293. In 2017, GAZ Group delivered 50 diesel LiAZ-5295 buses and 50 PAZ-320414 buses. At the same time, 100 low-floor LiAZ-5292 buses with 286-horsepower YaMZ-530 gas engines meeting the Euro-5 emissions standard were transferred to Nizhny Novgorod Passenger Motor Transport Enterprise No. 2. Each vehicle is 12 m long and has a capacity of 108 passengers. The buses are equipped with automatic transmissions, ABS, power steering, vandal-resistant seats, three route displays and an interior display board, video surveillance systems, kneeling equipment, and ramps for passengers with limited mobility, as well as GLONASS equipment. The warranty period on the delivery was 18 months or 150,000 km of mileage.[2]
Relocation of Depot No. 3 and Current Status
In 2025, reports appeared of a planned relocation of Depot No. 3 from Rodionov Street to a new site. The vacated site is intended to be used for the construction of a large multidisciplinary medical center as part of an integrated area development project. The possible locations considered for the new depot were a site near the selo of Afonino and an area in Prioksky District near the Scherbinki microdistrict.[1]
"Nizhegorodpassazhiravtotrans" is one of the key transport operators of Nizhny Novgorod Region, alongside "Nizhegorodelektrotrans". In the future, the company plans to extend to its buses the modern cashless fare payment options already introduced on other types of urban transport.[3]
