Natalya Aleksandrovna Kryzhanovskaya (born October 6, 1939, in Gorky) is a physician in clinical laboratory diagnostics, a Candidate of Medical Sciences, and a senior research fellow; from 1992 she headed the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Diagnostic Center [1]. Before that, she spent nearly thirty years working at three research institutions in the city [1].
Thirty years before the diagnostic center
She graduated from the Gorky Medical Institute in 1963 [1]. She spent five years as a physician within the third main directorate — the medical service of closed enterprises — then six years at the institute of traumatology and orthopedics and eighteen years at the institute of occupational hygiene and occupational diseases [1].
In 1992 she became head of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the regional diagnostic center. Her field is clinical laboratory diagnostics; she has approximately one hundred publications and two inventor's certificates to her name, and she was a member of the association of clinical laboratory diagnostics physicians [1].

A center that changed its name
The institution she headed is today known as the state budgetary healthcare institution of Nizhny Novgorod Region "Clinical Diagnostic Center" — the word "regional" (oblastnoy) was dropped from the name according to the registry entry dated August 23, 2011 [2]. The center operates in Nizhny Novgorod at 2 Reshetnikovskaya Street [3].
The clinical diagnostic laboratory of the center is one of the largest in the region: approximately six hundred types of analyses, four groups of tests (hematological, general clinical, biochemical with coagulology and chromatography, and immunological with cytofluorimetry) [3].
The laboratory is equipped with a Sysmex hematology analyzer, a Minicap capillary electrophoresis analyzer, Immulite and Maglumi immunochemiluminescence analyzers, and a Beckman Coulter flow cytofluorimeter [3].
What became of the institutes
The Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics on the Verkhne-Volzhskaya Embankment, where Kryzhanovskaya worked in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was incorporated in early 2018 into the Medical Academy together with the Volga Federal Medical Research Center, giving rise to the Privolzhsky Research Medical University with its university clinic [4].
The Institute of Occupational Hygiene and Occupational Diseases, where she worked for eighteen years, still exists today — as the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Hygiene and Occupational Pathology of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing [5].
Laboratory diagnostics in the regional center
The laboratory headed by Kryzhanovskaya operates within a regional institution: the center serves residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region under the compulsory medical insurance program and on a fee-paying basis [3].
Today the laboratory conducts hematological studies (diagnosis of leukemia, multiple myeloma, and anemia), general clinical tests, biochemical analyses with coagulology and chromatography, and immunological tests with flow cytofluorimetry [3].
