Narodnaya Street is a street in Nizhny Novgorod, located in the southwestern part of the city. According to one source, it belongs to Prioksky District and is part of the Scherbinki residential area[1]; a listing for the sale of an apartment at building No. 56 on this street, however, gives Moskovsky District[2] — possibly this refers to different sections of the street, or to a discrepancy in administrative data between the sources.

Location and Buildings

The street begins near the intersection with Gagarin Avenue and runs deep into the residential area. In its vicinity are buildings of Lobachevsky University, as well as major thoroughfares — Gagarin Avenue and Academician Sakharov Street[1]. The buildings combine Soviet-era prefabricated panel blocks and modern multi-storey residential complexes: in particular, the monolithic building at 56 Narodnaya Street was built in 2012[2].

Transport

Bus, trolleybus, and marshrutka (shared minibus) routes run along the street, linking the district with the Park Kultury metro station, "Burevestnik", and "Gorkovskaya" stations. The nearest metro station is Park Kultury, about a 15–20-minute walk from some sections of the street[1]. Reaching Gagarin Avenue takes a few minutes by car[1].

Role in Urban Development

Narodnaya Street figures in the redevelopment project for the site of the "Varya" oil and lubricants plant as one of the key anchor points for the new road network. The first phase of redevelopment (due by the end of 2030) provides for the construction of two local streets that will connect to Narodnaya Street; the second phase (by 2035) provides for two more streets — one from Kominterna Street to Narodnaya Street, and one from the planned four-lane thoroughfare to Narodnaya Street[1].
